The Institute For Music And Neurologic Function

Through the scientific exploration of music and the brain, The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF) seeks to establish new knowledge and to develop more effective music therapy treatments to awaken, stimulate and heal through the extraordinary power of music.

I had the privilege of working with this amazing program for over 9 years while living in New York City. We specialized in treating neurologic injuries and illnesses of all kinds including head injury, stroke, aphasia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, dementia, depression, autism, developmental delay, palliative care, and more. We also provided music therapy to premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit. Music therapy proved effective to varying degrees in every scenario. Music simultaneously activates many areas of the brain, and due to the brain's plasticity when one area is damaged it is possible, by developing or encouraging another area, to attain new skills and restore lost function.
