Pedicure Pleasurecure
When I get a pedicure it is an experience of physical pleasure. I don't dare pick up a magazine or look at my phone because I want to focus all of my attention on the handling of my feet and toes. I don't really enjoy getting pedicures with other people because I know I will have to talk, and yet more than once I have stopped in the middle of a conversation to lay my head back against the vibrating leather chair and absorb, eyes closed, the calf-rubbing and foot kneading. I guess my closest friends are used to it by now.
I've always been this way, wanting to do everything I can to prolong pleasure. I remember Christmas mornings getting up at 4am to make the day last longer, walking scrubbing my feet in the sand so every part of my foot would feel the soft coolness and remember it better later, licking the bowl of homemade guacamole first with my finger then my tongue to suck up every last bit (BTW, if you do this, be sure to start licking the sides of the bowl first, finally ending up in the middle, or else you'll have green on your forehead for hours and may not know...).
It comes down to attention. There is pleasure all around us pretty much all the time, and I am learning if I just notice it it can make a day seem so much nicer. I experimented with this mentality today and discovered a few wonderful delights. Like carpet! It's so much softer for pedicured feet to stand on and walk on than say concrete. Or good toilet paper. Or mattresses - oh what an invention! Down pillows! You know the Egyptians used a wooden stand-like thing as their pillows. Air! Breathing! Drinking water when you're thirsty! There are endless pleasures in even the most mundane days.
