Omaha Color

If you click on this picture and zoom into the details, you can see how truly beautiful the colors are in this part of the world at this time of year.  Even though when I'm here I spend much of my time around concrete and the more industrial zones, there are still gems hiding everywhere right in front of my eyes. Like that red tree at the bottom of the picture! The interesting thing is, didn't even see it when I took the picture. I saw more of the grayness and streets and parking deck. I had to look back out of my window to see if this red beacon of a tree really existed. (!) Now I can indulge in the pleasure of watching its colors change over the next several days. Doesn't that perfectly demonstrate how we see what we think is there! I woke up groggy and expected today to be another colorless, cold day. And I saw exactly that at first.

I wonder what else I can reexamine to see beauty I've been missing.
